Fleece & Flog Playoff Recap #1

Who said this blog was strictly about Chicago sports? My editor may not like it, but that's just too bad.

Oakland A's defeats Minnesota Twinkies: 5-2
(Oakland leads best of 5 series: 2-0)

Maybe the committee that awards the Gold Gloves should revoke Torii Hunter's, cuz it's deja vu all over again. Hunter's mindless dive at a Mark Kotsay hit rolled all the way to the wall for an inside-the-park two-run HR, bringing to memory the CFer's same exact play against the same exact team in the same exact building on a Ray Durham line drive in the 2002 playoffs.

After sliding safely across home plate, Kotsay jumped up and pumped his fists in the air. I'm not quite sure why he was so excited; even Ron Karkovice had an inside-the-park HR (a GS no less) at the Metrodome.

New York Mets defeat the L.A. Dodgers: 6-5
(Mets lead the best of 5 series: 1-0)

Carlton Fisk would be proud! Jeff Kent and J.D. Drew were both tagged out at home plate on the same play in the 5th inning by catcher Paul Lo Duca after Kent stupidly slowed down around second base (remind you Sox fans of anyone? *cough* Iguchi *cough*) and had Drew running the bases right up his ass.

Oh, and a rookie shall lead them. Jeff Maine, who wouldn't have been on the roster were Pedro Martinez not the fragile kind, started in place of former White Sox playoff hero Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez who was injured jogging in pregame warms-ups. Let me say that again -- JOGGING IN PREGAME WARM-UPS! Christ almighty!

New York Yankees defea--wait, this game was rained out...
New York & Detroit postponed.
(New York leads best of 5 series 1-0)

At least the Tiggers didn't embarrass themselves and Sox fans can keep from kicking themselves in the ass wondering how our team ever lost to as pathetic a lot as the the Tiggers.

On a lighter note: Two former White Sox catcher references in one post! Must be a record.

What, you couldn't find a way to mention the immortal Marv Foley?
